About the project
The project called "Education without borders - in Lubotin and Muszyna" came to life as a result of previous experience and cooperation of two schools: Základná skola s masterskou skolu L "ubotin and Kurierów Sądeckich Primary School No. 1 in Muszyna since 2002. This cooperation was based on common participation of the Polish and Slovak youth during the official events organized by the schools, (available to watch by citizens of L’ubotin and Muszyna) sport competitions, sightseeing tours, lessons open to take part in by students and teachers.
The experience of this cooperation showed that both teachers and students of partner schools have pointed out that despite the fact that they live so close to each other (distance between the two schools is only 20 kilometers) they suffer from mutual lack of knowledge of history, culture, traditions and customs of Saris and Sądecczyzna regions. Polish and Slovak language, though closely related, include many words sound funny on both sides of the border and a lot of words that have the same pronouncation but mean something completely different. Teachers and students’ opinions on that matter helped to draw the conclusion that this lack of knowledge may lead to confusion and sometimes even ethnic stereotypes and prejudices.
Therefore, it has been commonly believed that the basis for deriving knowledge of the neighboring country should be the knowledge of the differences in languages. Interpreting the words of L. Wittgenstein - "The limits of my language are the limits of my world", can mean that learning the language of a particular nationality, lead to better understanding its perception of the world. Hence the idea of getting closer children, young people and teachers of the partner schools through shared learning, exploring the history, culture, traditions as well as customs.
Children will learn the language through joint activities planned in the project and through direct contact "face to face". Special role in overcoming language barriers will play a regional vocal - dance workshop in May during which students will be able to know each other through music, songs and dance what will give them possibility for contacts at the level of verbal communication. Similar roles will play sport activities organized on the occasion of Children's Day.
The aim of the project is to change the status quo through a better understanding of the language, history, culture, customs, music and dance and thus the change in the attitudes of children and young people in relation to their peers in the border area. The project will be implemented using the latest techniques in the field of teaching and knowledge transfer. Information technology and media, including the use of interactive boards and mobile interactive touch screens will facilitate obtaining better results.
